Blue Monochrome Stars & Flag Veterans Day Quote Instagram Post

On this Veterans Day, Indiana is thankful for the service and sacrifice made by our service members. Every day, the freedom we enjoy can be attributed to veterans across generations. We also gratefully acknowledge the commitment and tenacity of military families who supported loved ones during their time of service.

As Hoosiers, we like to get things done. The IEDC not only honors veterans, we provide opportunities for them to thrive in Indiana. As a state known for a great quality of life, jobs of tomorrow and solid industry ecosystems, we help veterans connect to a great future in Indiana. Our state does not tax veteran pensions, and we actively seek out veterans as a valued and skilled workforce. Whether seeking a post-service career with INVets, or starting a business with assistance from Indiana APEX Accelerator, veterans can find ample resources right here.

Our veteran outreach and employment efforts work starts at home. Meet Kevin Albert, a member of the Indiana APEX Accelerator team here at the IEDC.

  • How did you find your job with the IEDC?
Before I came to the IEDC, I was deployed to Kosovo with my Army National Guard unit for Operation Joint Guardian which was a NATO Peacekeeping Mission. While I was deployed, I did not have the idle time to network and apply for various jobs. I learned of INVets before deployment at my Yellow Ribbon Ceremony and relied on them for assistance. When I connected with them while deployed, they were terrific and were the ones who connected me to the IEDC.

  • Why was Indiana the right fit for you?
I’m a Hoosier! This is home.

  • What would you like other veterans to know about making a life in Indiana after service?
For veterans transitioning out of the service, Indiana is a great state for you and your family. The cost of living is very affordable, and businesses are hiring. Hoosier hospitality is real, and the economy is booming in the state.

  • How can veterans who start or own a business get help in Indiana?
Apex Accelerator and the Indiana Small Business Development Center (ISBDC) are excellent resources overall. If you're not sure where to start, ConnectIND is another great option.
